When you volunteer with Dyslexia Edmonton, you give children who struggle to read the essential skills, confidence

and hope they need to succeed.

 

We are looking for dedicated volunteer tutors, but we welcome and need support at the Centre for vital roles

like session monitors.

                       Change a Child's Story:  Become a tutor

You don't need to be a professional educator to make a lifelong impact.

At Dyslexia Edmonton, our volunteer tutors work one-on-one with a child twice a week, using the

Orton-Gillingham structured approach to unlock the joy of reading.

 

We provide complete training, so you'll feel supported from day one. Your professional development is

comprised of self-study and one-on-one sessions with our Tutor Trainer.

                                        Time commitment

 

• Two sessions per week, each lasting 50 minutes plus professional development time.

 

• Sessions are held after school, Monday to Thursday.

 

• Tutors work with the same child for the duration of their program.

 

Consistency is important. Children thrive when they work with the same tutor. If you’re reliable, caring, and

ready to make a difference, we’ll support you every step of the way.

                                                    Not ready to tutor? You can still help!

 

                                                      Volunteer to serve as a monitor.

Each session is video-taped under the watchful eye of a volunteer monitor. Service in this valuable

role could be a stepping stone for someone interested in becoming a tutor. It provides insights into

the program and how a tutor delivers it.

• Serve on the Board of Directors or special committees.
